RAMADAN IN QATAR

According to numbers from the Ministry of Development, Urban Planning and Statistics in Qatar, more people than ever before are choosing to stay in Qatar for Ramadan. Only 23,000 people have chosen to leave the country while over 2 million remain. Reasons behind this are likely that people will find it easier to fast if they stay and they can go on vacation afterwards without having to worry about keeping the fast during that time. Pray for all of the people that remain in Qatar during Ramadan. Pray that they would discover and experience the love of Jesus Christ.

RAMADAN SAWM

Ramadan began this week all over the world.  Sawm, one of Islam’s five pillars, requires fasting from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadan. It starts when fajr, the first Call to Prayer, echoes through the wee hours of morning, raising the sleepy to perform prayers. Then it’s a busy morning before the sun comes up, because all the eating and drinking for the day must happen before daylight. Dhuhr, the second Call to Prayer, comes around noon. Islam has five pillars, actions obligatory for believers. One, the hajj, is a pilgrimage that every able-bodied Muslim should make once in his lifetime. Pilgrims join millions of others in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the week before the annual festival of Eid al-Adha. They perform a series of rituals centering around a stone called the Kaaba, a journey between two hills, drinking from a well, and sacrificing an animal to commemorate God’s provision for Hagar when Abraham and Sarah sent her and Ishmael into the wilderness. (You can read the Biblical account in Genesis 16 and 21.) According to tradition, this is the place…

THE SHAHADA

Islam has five pillars, actions obligatory for believers. The first, shahada, means “to observe, witness, or testify.” Sometimes in Arabic the dual form is used for the twin actions of observing and then declaring that observation. The two acts in Islam are perceiving there is no god but God and testifying of God’s messenger. A single honest recitation of the shahada in Arabic is the only requirement to become a Muslim. We prefer to live in a God-honoring way because living is less scary than proclaiming. We quote St. Francis of Assisi’s “Preach the Gospel always; if necessary, use words.”…
