ALL THINGS NEW

In the early 1900s, millions immigrated to America, seeking to forget the past and reinvent themselves. Qatar, with its newfound riches, is one of very few with the same opportunity to reinvent itself in modern times.
.
Little evidence remains of Qatar’s obscurity before oil discovery in the 1940s or natural gas discovery in the 1970s. Fifteen years ago, the country was in debt. Now Qatar is the richest nation in the world per capita. Construction and development are exploding.
.
As modernization and its glory collide with culture, we must recognize that the new and shiny surface likely belies frustration and inconsistency. Internal change happens at a slower pace; lifestyle and culture are entrenched in more ancient culture and traditions.
.
Read the story of Ahmed and Miriam, and imagine the changes they’ve seen in their lifetimes. Read Matthew 9:17-18. We pray for true transformation, which aligns the internal and the external. We ask God to forgive us for judging the wealth of Qataris. Help us see Qataris the way You see them: as people in need of a Savior. Continue to make all things (all people) new by the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the evidence of new life in Jesus Christ.
