QATARIZATION
Qatar is in a predicament. The discovery of abundant natural resources attracted foreigners from around the globe to take jobs. However, now, there is a tug of war between who should be given the jobs: Qataris or foreigners.
About 8 years ago the electric company replaced all Qatari employees with Southeast Asians. The typical Qatari is expensive to hire. Qataris have a long list of social obligations to family and are unlikely to work the same hours as others, thus seen as unreliable employees.
Frequently, even companies with Qatari business owners do not hire Qataris; when they are hired, they are hired as favors, or hired for their connections rather than expertise. This forces the well trained and educated into positions where they cannot grow or use their knowledge.
Qatarization, a movement to hire Qataris when possible, is being attempted at all levels except things like house care, as there are certain jobs a Qatari would never do.
